Rune Knight
Rune Knight builds on Gladiator's melee and support skills by adding ways to heal and assist the party.
Rune Knight's first action is Reverse, altering its sword into an instrument of mending and succor, rather than war. Reverse allows the Rune Knight to target other player characters, in addition to enemies, with auto-attacks, weaponskills, and offensive spells. When auto-attacks and weaponskills are used on player characters, their HP will be restored instead of depleted. Use of Reverse in conjunction with the Gladiator actions Flash, Shield Bash, or Shield Swipe produces an Esuna/Leeches type effect, removing a detrimental ailment from each target. Use of Reverse in conjunction with Circle of Scorn imparts a healing over time effect to all nearby player characters. Use of Reverse in conjunction with Rage of Halone at the end of a combo increases a target's STR by 5%. Attacking an enemy target while Reverse is in effect does not restore the enemy's HP, instead it restores the Rune Knight's HP. Note that the quid pro quo is that enemies will take no damage from your actions while Reverse is active. Aside from Reverse, Rune Knight is able to draw Runic Circles on designated areas, producing various effects. Each type of circle can exist in only one place at a time, but one of each circle may be in effect at the same time, if MP permits. Similar to these circle effects, a Rune Knight can also use Bequeath to transform any self-target buff into a small zone at the Rune Knight's location; this zone lasts an amount of time equal to half the duration of the buff used and grants an effect similar to the buff, but with 50% efficacy, to all party members who enter the zone. For instance, using Bequeath and then Sentinel would create a zone at the Rune Knight's location that reduces the damage received by all party members standing in the zone by 20% but only for 5 seconds. One big strength inherent here is never running out of MP once Reverse is in effect. Another strength is three sources of Esuna, one using MP, another using TP, and one that uses neither. Additionally, cross-class actions open up a wide variety of effects that you can spread to your party with Bequeath, or use to augment your own healing. Because Rune Knight's healing is based on the strength of its auto-attacks and weaponskills, several cross-class actions are useful in surprising ways. Berserk increases the potency of your auto-attacks and weaponskills, healing your targets for more HP, Death Blossom becomes a nice way to heal in a small area, and Mercy Stroke becomes a semi-powerful healing attack that can only be used when a target is in critical HP but doesn't interfere with your weaponskill cooldown. One big weakness of Rune Knight is not being able to heal itself without an enemy to wail on. The cross-class action Mix Potion is one valid way around this. Another weakness is relying entirely on Deterioration for damage output while in Reverse. Lastly, and most notably, Rune Knight has no class or job based access to a Raise type spell; it can, however, use Mix Phoenix-Potion from the Apothecary class.
